This large artwork belongs to an earlier period of my artistic development, when I was especially fascinated by Impressionism.
It was inspired by the atmosphere and colors of Monet’s gardens.
The surface contains more than three thousand small fabric squares, assembled to create the impression of a garden filled with light, color and movement.
One unusual part of the process was painting the trees directly onto the completed textile surface.
This was a very different way of working from the pieces I create today. The construction was demanding and carefully developed, but my fascination with color and atmosphere remains exactly the same.
I think it provides an interesting connection between my earlier work and the more abstract pieces in this exhibition.
